A thread lift is a nonsurgical facial rejuvenation procedure that passes threads beneath the surface of your skin to lift the tissue. The threads may have tiny barbs or cones that help grip the skin. When appropriately positioned, they give your face a more lifted, toned appearance, especially around the lower face and jowls.
As the threads are absorbed over the first six months, they also trigger a boost in your natural collagen production that can improve your skin’s firmness for up to a year.
The procedure has been dubbed a “lunchtime facelift” because it’s quick, with minimal downtime compared to a surgical facelift.
It’s sometimes called a PDO thread lift for polydioxanone, a dissolvable material used in sutures. You may also see it marketed as a sugar lift, since the PDO threads are made from long chains of polysaccharide, aka sugar.
PDO Threads tighten aging skin with a natural-looking lift that lasts for up to one year. This pre-surgery savior shows immediate results that only improve over time as new collagen forms.
The term for PDO threads comes from the name of the thread used in the procedure. “Soluble polydioxanone threads” are similar to the threads used for surgical stitches. By inserting these threads beneath the skin, a scaffold is created that gives your skin a natural lift while new collagen is produced. After about 3 months, the threads dissolve and all that’s left is the newly built collagen giving a tighter, smoother appearance.
